Relax! Workplace ergonomics session

Earlier this week our team enjoyed a lunchtime learning session on workplace ergonomics facilitated by Brigitte Baker, workplace health and wellbeing expert. Some key takeaways were:

 

Everyone is different: There are some key guidelines to follow, but it’s important to do what feels right for you.

Sitting vs standing desks: too much of both is where problems arise. You should do a combination of both throughout the day.

Get up and move: If you are sitting all day, make sure you are getting up and moving around, even if it’s just to the kitchen and back.

Rest your eyes: your eye muscles need a rest too. Take a moment to refocus by looking away from your screen into the distance. Also ensure your screen is not too bright.

The swiss ball fad is over: swiss balls are not adjustable so it is highly unlikely you are getting the correct set up by using one.

Hot desking is not great: you need to have your own desk so you can ensure consistent correct set up.

Oh, and those fancy looking mesh-backed boardroom chairs? Not ideal. Get some lumbar support!
